چکیده

The present paper examines the adsorption of water by microporous carbons containing various amounts of surface oxygen an a smaller proportion of basic centres. The modelling of water adsorption for 293 and 310 K, using variable pore size distribution (PSD), confirms that the overall type IV isotherm is the sum of a type I isotherm associated with the specific interactions, and a typ V isotherm reflecting the non-specific interactions. The principle of temperature invariance is followed by these isotherms, whic indicates that modelling leads to the Dubinin–Astakhov equation. The present approach allows the prediction of water adsorption near room temperature, on the basis of the PSD and the densit of oxygen present on the surface area of the micropores. It is assumed, to a first and good approximation, that the pores are slit shaped and the oxygen distribution is random.

Photocatalytic process using magnesium oxide nanoparticles for amoxicillin removal from aqueous solution

Background & Aim: Excessive consumption of antibiotics and their incomplete metabolization in human and animals, as well as inadequate removal by conventional waste water system leads to the release of these chemicals into the environment. Antibiotics have adverse effects including bacterial resistance, digestive disorders and genotoxic. Therefore the aim of this study was to survey amoxicillin...

Experimental and Theoretical Study on the CH4 Adsorption by Granular and Microporous Activated Carbon

Adsorbed natural gas (ANG) by Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) has been widely investigated as an alternative to CNG and LNG technologies for storage and transportation of natural gas. In the present work, a theoretical and experimental study was conducted to accurately determine the amount of adsorption of CH4 by GAC. To carry out the experiments, the volumetric method was used up to 4 MPa at c...

Imaging the atomic structure of activated carbon

The precise atomic structure of activated carbon is unknown, despite its huge commercial importance in the purification of air and water. Diffraction methods have been extensively applied to the study of microporous carbons, but cannot provide an unequivocal identification of their structure. Here we show that the structure of a commercial activated carbon can be imaged directly using aberratio...

Adsorption of nitrate from aqueous solution using activated carbon-supported Fe0, Fe2 (SO4)3, and FeSO4

In this laboratory scale study, impregnated almond shell activated carbon was used as adsorbent to investigate its feasibility for nitrate adsorption from aqueous medium. The effects of activated carbon dosage and contact time have been examined in batch experiments. Experimental data show that impregnated activated carbons by Fe0, Fe2 (SO4)3, and FeSO4 were more effective than virgin almond ac...

Preparation of Carbon Molecular Sieves by Chemical Vapor Infiltration of Lignin Based Microporous Carbons

In a previous work we studied the influence of heat treatment on the molecular sieve properties of activated carbons prepared by chemical activation of lignin [1]. The thermal treatment modified the porous structure of the activated carbons, giving rise to solids that separate C6H6 from C6H12, CO2 from CH4 and O2 from N2 with a relative high selectivity. However, the heat treatment drastically ...
